DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

Greetings!

I'm happy to report that the Leadership Institute's Pueblo Convocation was a great success.  The three-day Pueblo Convocation brought together Pueblo people, experts and leaders to reflect on 100 years of challenges and articulate a vision for the future.  The event celebrated Pueblo people, history, survival and resilience.

The event featured participation from all 20 Pueblo and representatives from Hopi, Navajo, Jicarilla Apache and Mescalero Apache.  In total, about 400 people participated in this historic event.  The invitation process involved each of the Pueblo Governor's selected a delegation of 10 members to represent their communities.  Other invited guests included past Leadership Institute participants, partners, and about 50 youth from nearly all Pueblo communities.

The focus was to present a 'state of the state' in Pueblo communities related to 11 topic areas that the LI has been working on through 12 + years of Community Institutes.  A small group of Pueblo representatives and past LI participants served as Team Leaders.  These individuals made presentations on Language, Health, Land and Cultural Resources, Environment, Economic and Community Development, Art, Family, Law, Governance, Education, and Youth.

Funded by the W K Kellogg Foundation, the Pueblo Convocation's next steps are to convene Community Instittutes for tribal Communities.  The LI team is working on a report that will be made available to all participants.  A video summary of the event will be made available on this website soon.  If you'd like to see a particular presentation, please contact me and I will make it available to you.
